8 MIDWEEK JULY 6, 2022
The Purr-fect Rescue
Dear Darah,
I would like to send the biggest mahalo out to Heather Sharland Cur- tis. I stumbled upon a mama cat and eight tiny babies in my apartment complex. They had just been born and were not in a very safe place at all. After making many phone calls and Facebook postings, I found Heather. She and her two sons were willing to help with the rescue. Getting the kittens into the basket was easy, but the mama cat did not want to be caught. It was close to midnight when they went off to their new foster home, and as of this morning they are all doing well.
we were doing, they came out with blankets and food to help us. We really love an- imals and it’s heartbreaking to think they wouldn’ t be cared for. We didn’t expect to be watching kittens 10 weeks later, but we’re work- ing with Hawai‘i Cat Foun- dation to get them adopted out. We already have two cats, and my son, who is deaf, has a service dog. If anyone is interested in adopting, they can visit Hawai‘i Cat Foundation on Facebook or email hicatfoundation@ gmail.com. We are fostering eight kittens and go to Kap- olei Petco on Sundays, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., to try to adopt out these kittens as well as other cats.”
Animal lovers are a spe- cial breed and our commu- nity is so grateful for these dear hearts who are com- passionate and kind to our furry and feathered friends. Please help if you can and visit them on Sundays if you want to welcome a friendly feline into your home and your heart.
Mail letters to MidWeek c/o Mahalo Nui at 500 Ala Moa- na Blvd. Ste. 7-500, Honolulu HI 96813, or email mahalo- nuiwithdarah@gmail.com. Include your name, where on the island you reside, phone number and, if possible, the phone number of the person you’ re thanking so she can contact him or her.
Thank you again, Heather, and thanks to your sons as well. They are already fine young men, and I know they will make you even prouder in the years to come.

We spent hours trying to catch the mama and when the other residents saw what
