A Chance To ‘INSPIRE’ Youth
Youth are served on the Ninth Island, thanks to Island eNVy’s “INSPIRE” — a new program that kicked off this summer. By welcoming 125 students entering grades 6-12, the program promotes healthy lifestyles and provides resources, including opportunities for Native Hawaiian/Pacific Is- lander cultural enrichment and education. This program was the vision of Island eNVy director Malcolm Ahlo, originally from Wai‘anae, who attended Explorations. He wanted to bring a similar program to the students here on the mainland — pupils who have not been exposed to important cultural aspects while growing up.

Gindi, which also owns the Showcase Mall, is planning to give a much-needed makeover to the area to include retail, restaurants and entertainment. The prop- erty next door to this is in the process of being sold to Golden Nugget owner Tilman Fertitta, who plans to develop another casino-resort.
