Nonprofit Kanu Hawai‘i is organiz- ing the weeklong event. Its in-person and virtual service events will support various community needs. From food drives and tree plantings to park and beach cleanups, there are numerous family-friendly events to participate in.
“With no volunteers and little fund- ing, (nonprofits and community organi- zations) are doing what they can to keep going,” Kealoha says. “With restrictions lifted, now is the perfect time to get back out there and support those organiza- tions that have been doing great work on our behalf. Let them know they aren’t alone and that their work is important to our community.”
Executive director Keone Kealoha hopes that community members will par- take in some of the many opportunities that Volunteer Week Hawai‘i has to offer.
This is the fifth year that the nonprofit is facilitating Volunteer Week Hawai‘i, which is the largest volunteer-focused campaign within the islands, and the larg- est state-level celebration of National Vol- unteer Week in the country.
Festivities will culminate on Earth Day, April 22. To learn more, visit volunteerweekhawaii.org.
