Urban criminality in the 1800s is at the forefront of Martin Scorsese’s epic Gangs of New York, which made its way into theaters 19 years ago this week. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Amsterdam Vallon, who’s hellbent on avenging his Irish gang chieftain and father. His adversary is the knife-wielding mon- ster William “Bill the Butcher” Cutting (Daniel Day Lewis), who killed Vallon’s father and leads the Protes- tant Confederation of American Natives gang. National Whiners Day
Contrary to its name, Whiners Day is not a designated time for complaints (even though the long return lines post-Christmas might make you want to scream), but a time of gratitude. So, instead of moaning and groaning about things, learn to appreciate what you have rather than what you might lack.
