4 MIDWEEK DECEMBER 8, 2021
            “What’s your favorite holiday movie?”
      ’Twas The Night Before Thanksgiving
Ron is on medical leave.
This column originally ran Dec. 6, 2017.
’Twas the night before Thanksgiving,
when all through the house
Someone was scheming; it must be my spouse. She said, “Tajiri has Christmas trees on his Varsity lot, Let’s get ours tomorrow since Black Friday cannot.”
I sat there all nestled in front the TV
While in my wife’s mind were visions of trees. Our daughter applied lipgloss to her wonderful smile But in my mouth, all I could taste was just bile.
When Thanksgiving morn on my lawn was my paper I looked at the front page and mimicked Don Draper. Star-Advertiser had Tajiri on page number one Saying, “There’s a shortage of trees,”
and I knew I was done.
We hit the lot with no place to park
The lines were so long, my future looked stark. When what to my wandering eyes should appear But a tree in a stand that looked free and clear.
Like a madman I sprinted so lively and quick But found in a moment it was someone else’s pick. After what felt like hours a helper she came And asked us what tree and called them by name.

“As a kid, I looked forward to the animagic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
It encourages us to follow our dreams and reminds us that every oddball fits in somewhere and shines.”
RAELYN BATACAN
Public Relations, Pearl City
“The Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s a film complete with everything I love: Christmas, music and Halloween.”
GAVIN NG
Student, Honolulu
“Elf. It features great veteran actors like Ed Asner and Bob Newhart. Will Ferrell has an uncanny ability to be spontaneous with his humor, which I love.”
MARIAH NICOLAS
Department of Human Services, Waipahu
“Eloise at Christmastime. It’s a cute movie with a good message behind it; it’s nostalgic, since I used
to watch this as a kid.”

          AWhat Is Enough?
s I interacted with people this week, whether socially or professionally, I noticed a theme running throughout my conversations all
revolving around “not enough.” It ranged from not enough time to get everything done, to not getting enough sleep, to not having enough energy or not hav- ing enough courage to do what they really wanted to do (like say “no” to someone).
When we aren’t mindful, it’s natural to focus on the lack. The more we focus on the lack, the more it mag- nifies. Escape the scarcity mindset. When all is said and done, there are really only a few things that really truly matter to you. Make the shift and focus on where you do have enough.

Now Nobles! Now Douglas! Now sheered and flocked!
On 6 foot, on 7, and even a 9
Now dash away, dash away and get in this line!
The guy in the container might have thought me a jerk He spoke not a word but went right to his work. He knew the decision would come from my wife He’d be pulling out trees for the rest of his life.
She finally found one and staked out her claim I forked out some cash and then did exclaim As we drove out of sight —
Merry Christmas to all, and to all feel my plight!
