Festival Salutes Hawai‘i’s Best
A fter a three-year hiatus, the 29th annual Pacific Island- er Festival and Ho‘olaule‘a returned to Vegas with a two-day celebration Sept. 10-11. This fam- ily-friendly event was the result of all the hard work and dedication of the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club and the 450 volunteers who worked
followed by rainbows and humid temperatures — all common for Hawai‘i, but not so common here on the Ninth Island.

to make the event a success. Hundreds of former Hawai‘i residents, along with Vegas lo- cals, came out to support the small businesses and enjoy the free en- tertainment. From hula to island music, local dishes to island-in- spired crafts, Water Street Plaza was transformed into what felt like a bit of home for many festival at- tendees. Even the weather got into the island spirit with a rainstorm
The free outdoor festival includ- ed food vendors like local favorites Pā‘ina Café and 2 Scoops of Aloha; retail vendors like Crunch of Aloha and Ninth Islander; as well as two stages for entertainment. In addition to the food and crafts, attendees en- joyed the seven Polynesian villages, representing Hawai‘i, Tahiti, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand and the Cook Islands. Twelve different hula hālau performed, and attend- ees were also entertained with live music from ST1 Reggae with Baba B, Tropical Storm and Green Bottle Union, just to name a few.
The Pacific Islander Festival and Ho‘olaule‘a earlier this month featured hālau from Vegas and Hawai‘i.
