The story of the Takitani ‘ohana is one of im- migration, hard work, omiyage and family values. It’s a homegrown success sto- ry that began when Mamoru Takitani left his homeland of Japan for far away Maui. He married Aiko of Wailuku and moved to Honolulu, where they opened a small choco- late shop in the city’s newest suburb of Kaimukī. Hawaiian Host (formerly known as El- len Dye Candies) opened its doors Jan. 1, 1960.
