Ilove going back to my childhood neigh- borhood in Waipi‘o. I like seeing how things have changed, as well as the peo- ple and places I know and love that have stayed the same. The best part, though? Walking through the doors of my mom’s house to spend time with her — and digging through the things still stored in my old room and in the ga- rage. What a treasure trove of memories!
everything from baseball and football to basketball — and a few local-style Pogs (aka milk caps or slammers) from Hawai‘i Little League, Kala- bash Kids, Supa-Cross and more.

The former collectibles really caught my attention, especially the NBA ones (my favorites from the bunch are the Fanimation NBA basket- ball cards featuring Dikembe Mutombo, Larry Bird, Karl Malone and Michael Jordan).

On a recent visit, I stum- bled upon some of my mom and uncle’s sports cards —
I was more of a Beanie Ba- bies hoarder, and Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! card collec- tor. Never were sports cards on my radar. Well, except for

Kailua’s Michael Tymn released No One Really Dies: 25 Reasons to Believe in an Afterlife back
in January, tackling (as the title indicates) what happens after we die. Tymn is an accomplished author (learn more about him at whitecrowbooks.com/michaeltymn) who won the 1999 Robert H. Ashby Memorial Award given by The Academy of Religion and Psychical Research for his essay Dying, Death, and After Death. His most recent paperback is based on empirical science, focusing on research surrounding “mediumship, after-death communication, past-life studies, near-death experiences, out-of-body experiences, deathbed visions and other psychic phenomena.” Find No One Really Dies on Amazon.
Similarly, Honolulu author Annette Kam release her new e-book WAIT – Don’t Die Yet!, which is available online at annettekam.com (and it’s a free download!). Kam, a retired registered nurse with Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children, walks readers through all the things that family and friends need to know before, during and after their loved one has died. She answers the seemingly routine (but not often thought of ) questions like: If a loved one asked you to
get their affairs in order, would you know where to start? “As humans, we all have one thing in common: death,” Kam states. “But are you prepared for it? How about your parents and your spouse? You may not like to think about it, but avoiding it will not solve the problems you or
your loved ones leave behind.”
I was fortunate to write about C.L. Walters in
MidWeek’s West O‘ahu Voice back in October 2019, when she completed her young adult trilogy — Swimming Sideways, The Ugly Truth and The Bones
of Who We Are. Well, she’s kept busy since then, and is planning on releasing In the Echo of this Ghost Town on Oct. 12. The novel touches on topics like toxic masculinity, alcohol addiction and unwanted pregnancy, as well as friendship, family, forgiveness, personal accountability and more. Her books are gripping and raw — and are impossible to put down. Learn more about her and her books online at clwalters.net.
