Whether it is portraiture, land- scapes or scenes of everyday life, his work makes a canvas come alive to tell a story. Uhr was born in Chica- go in 1943 and came to Hawai‘i in 2006. He eventually settled in Pearl City, where he has resided for the past nine years. From a studio on his covered lānai where there is lots of natural light, he renders paintings that resonate with brilliant color.
Uhr says, “Portraits are one of my favorite things to paint. To know the sitter as a person and transferring that feeling to the canvas is exciting. When I hear a comment like, ‘Oh, wow,’ that does it for me.”

His work has been exhibited at Honolulu Hale, Punahou Gallery, Ho‘omaluhia Botanical Garden, Ho- nolulu Club and Cathedral Gallery. He is represented by Cedar Street Galleries and others, both in and outside of Hawai‘i.

Uhr is a life-long learner when it comes to art. He studied at Chicago Art Institute and Chicago Academy of Fine Art. As a recipient of a Ford Foundation Scholarship, he contin-
ued his studies at the Art Students Halstead in Chicago and Daniel
League of New York with Rob- ert Brackman and Robert Beverly Hale. He also studied with Richard
Green in New York. To this day, he continues to take workshops at Uni- versity of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and oth-
