or Lyndon Patricio, boxing is more than just a combat sport. The 42-year-old Wai‘anae native first
turned to the “sweet science” as a youngster looking to find discipline, and he passes on what he learned to the next generation of ath- letes as a coach at Pearl City’s Aiwohi Ath- letics.
“We encourage, discipline, motivate and prepare kids to be better members of society,” Lyndon says. “And, we’ve been building kids into national champions!”
Aiwohi Athletics was originally formed at the Aiwohi Trucking yard in Kalaeloa by Mark Aiwohi and his wife, Angel. When Mark died in February 2019, Patricio moved the operation to Pearl City Industrial Park shortly thereafter to continue Mark’s tradition at a centralized location.
“Carrying on his legacy, Mark was a friend of mine and we were dedicated to coaching the kids,” says Lyndon, who works in the construction industry. “Our gym is open to those who need and want self-discipline in
