Pearl City Nonprofit Honored
Touch A Heart is a Hawai‘i based nonprofit based out of Pearl City that works with individuals facing barriers to employment, including addictionandcriminalhis- tory, and provides them with paid training in food service, followedbyanintensiveap- prenticeship program. The organization was recently selected as the only cohort member from Hawai‘i for the 2022 Roberts Enterprise Development Fund Acceler- ator program.

Robin Kumabe, exec- utive director of Touch A Heart, along with 17 other ESEleadersfromacrossthe United States will join the program to drive innovation andimpactineconomicin- clusion.Throughtheacceler- ator, leaders will engage in a highly interactive five-month program in which they’ll work alongside each other to learn, test and implement in- novative methods, skills and tools to grow their businesses and impact. At the end of the program, they will receive a grant to operationalize their strategies, as well as contin- ued opportunities to connect with ESE peers in REDF’s large and growing network.

together and invest in this powerful and diverse group of leaders with deep exper- tise and lived experience in overcoming barriers to employment,” states Yo- dit Beyene, REDF Accel- erator’s associate director. “The accelerator remains a unique and vital source of collective learning and innovation in employment social enterprise, growing knowledge and networks of participating leaders and in- forming our own strategies and investments through the expertise and perspective of leaders across industries and geographies.”
The cohort will be among the 108 total ESE leaders from 34 states that the REDF Accelerator has engaged since launching in 2016.

Keiki Kani Choir of ‘Aiea-based Keiki Kani Music Studio will represent Hawai‘i at Carnegie Hall April 10 in Distinguished Concerts International New York’s Total Vocal concert. The choir will join 120 singers from around the United Sates
in the event, which features a cappella music from The Sing-Off and Pitch Perfect, and is under the direction of Deke Sharon, producer-arranger for Pentatonix, Straight No Chaser and others. Keiki Kani presented a concert on March 19 at Waipahu Community Christian Church to show their mahalo to family and friends who have supported and helped with their journey.
