Hawai‘i State Federal Credit Union, headquar- tered in Honolulu, is ac- cepting applications for its 2023 student scholarship program. The credit union will award 20 scholarships worth $5,000 to Hawai‘i students planning to attend university, college or trade school.
 For Mellein, a memorable moment from the trip was visiting the Decatur House, home to the only surviving slave quarters within sight of the White House.
“This professional devel- opment provided me with useful tools and insights and it sparked excitement in me to share aspects of Amer- ican history that I had pre- viously not been exposed to with my students,” she states.
The scholarships are open to all Hawai‘i State FCU members and their dependents. Those who apply must demonstrate fi- nancial need, plan to attend an institution of higher ed- ucation full time and have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, among other things.
  “The ability to enter into places that hold such histor- ic significance and that the general public does not get access to is an unforgettable experience.”

 The White House History Teacher Institute was found- ed in 2016. It is part of the White House Historical As- sociation, a private nonprofit founded in 1961 by first lady Jacqueline Kennedy to pro- tect, preserve and provide public access to America’s executive mansion.
