UH Center For Korean Studies Celebrates 50th Anniversary
The Center for Korean Studies, located at Universi- ty of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, cel- ebrated its 50th anniversary Sept. 23 with a commemora- tive ceremony.
The center, which was built in 1972, is the oldest and largest Korean studies fa- cility of its kind in the nation.
Today, more than 40 affil- iate members from UH in a variety of fields — language, history, literature, economics, anthropology, architecture and law among them — are part of the center.
The Center for Korean Studies building is located at the Diamond Head end of University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. The stonework, painting and glazed ceramic tiles are modeled on a traditional Korean palace throne hall.

“Along with the global spread of Hallyu, the Korean Wave, and popular culture in the international commu- nity, the center will continue its efforts to serve as a hub for the Korean studies net- work,” states Tae-Ung Baik,
