Artists answered the call and pitched in to make the 5,000-square-foot space their own. dio space and it’s an eclectic crowd: videographers, flow- er arrangers, painters, screen printers, metal-press printers and musicians. The space is conducive to creative network- ing and partnerships — Wong says many artists end up col- laborating on projects. Wong is passionate about supporting the local arts culture scene and hasn’t taken pay for any of the work he’s put in to Lana Lane Studios. He is driven by a de- sire to serve the community through art, and his vision isn’t limited to Kaka‘ako. The lease for Lana Lane Studios is set to expire in September 2023 and while plans are up in the air, he shares he has a calling to move the studio to Kalihi. He’s spent

“Teaching there opened my eyes as to what was going on in the community — kids don’t have tools like iPads or laptops. There’s a need there that I want to serve and I want to continue doing work
in Kalihi,” he says.
“I’ve always felt that the
youth is the future and as a father of two kids myself, I see it even more so,” he adds. “Many kids get forgotten and schools tend to cut out art cur- riculum first when there are budget cuts.”
Even his daughter in public school can’t study art unless she goes on a waitlist for an extracurricular class.
“I’ve always felt it was really important to continue finding a way for arts and mu- sic education to thrive in Ha- wai‘i,” he says. “And giving back in general is so import- ant and I want to do the best I can.”
