Kids Get Back-to-school Help
The new school year has just begun, and several Ho- nolulu businesses did their part to make sure keiki in Kalihi were prepared.
The Island Insurance Foundation, the charitable arm of Honolulu-based Is- land Insurance, teamed up with nonprofit Better To- morrows to give more than 300 keiki backpacks, bind- ers, notebooks and more. The school children all live in the Towers of Kūhiō Park where, according to The Is- land Insurance Foundation and Better Tomorrows, the average family’s pre-pan- demic annual income was $15,000.

Meanwhile, employees at ALTRES, a leading em- ployment and human re- sources company, which
has an office in Honolulu, held a school supply drive for Kalihi Valley families, then filled backpacks with supplies for more than 60 pre-K to 12th grade students in Kalihi Valley.
TRES Foundation matched employee donations with a monetary gift of $5,000 to the nonprofit Kōkua Kalihi Valley, which will use the money to further support back-to-school efforts in Kalihi.
