American Heart Association Works To ‘Beat’ Heart Disease

“The American Heart Association influenced me early in my career and con- tinues to inform my practice and offer resources for my patients and the communi- ty,” says Khan, who now volunteers as the American Heart Association Hawai‘i Division board president in addition to serving as chief of the cardiovascular clini- cal program at The Queen’s Medical Center.
The organization also plays an important part in illuminating and eliminating health disparities in Hawai‘i communities.

“As a cardiologist, I see every day how people’s past lifestyles have, unfortunate- ly, negatively affected their hearts, causing them to need invasive and demanding pro- cedures to clear heart block- ages,” says Khan. “While there is sometimes a genetic component, doing these eight recommended things can sig- nificantly reduce your risk of heart disease.”
