Enhancing public safety and preserving the nat- ural beauty of our city is again a key priority this budget cy- cle and I have been working to prioritize road, sidewalk and stream maintenance. In this year’s budget, we are seeking to increase funding by $12 million to address this crucial issue.

Last year, we allocated $26.3 million toward road maintenance, which includes sidewalk, road and stream maintenance in areas such as Pālolo, Kaimukī and Kapa- hulu. However, recognizing
the urgency and importance of this endeavor, this year’s budget seeks to increase the amount for this item to $48 million, encompassing both salaries and current expenses.
