 variant name for Lae-ʻahi — “lae” meaning cape or point and “ahi” meaning tuna (re- sembling its silhouette).
Waikīkī Aquarium
The Waikīkī Aquarium is adjacent to the Queen’s Beach area and Hamohamo, mean- ing “rub gently” (as the sea on the beach). This area was pre- viously owned by Queen Lil- iʻuokalani and parts of it were later acquired by the Cooke family. The aquarium itself was established in 1904 as a commercial venture of the new trolley line in Kapiʻolani Park. The aquarium continues its stewardship of this area of

Except for the hula mele Kaimana Hila, Kaimana is more commonly used to re- fer to the beach adjoining the Natatorium (the World War I Memorial) on the Lēʻahi side. On April 14, the endangered monk seal Kaiwi returned to give birth to her fifth pup (the second at this beach). Mother and pup are expected to re- main there for five to seven weeks.
