Foster An Adult Dog With New Program
Hawaiian Humane Soci- ety launched a short-term foster program in an effort to provide shelter dogs with a home environment and alle- viate space constraints at its Mō‘ili‘ili campus.
Once foster families are matched with the right dog for their home and family, Hawaiian Humane Society provides all the necessary supplies for the dog during the foster period. Once the fostering stage is complete, fosters will complete a virtu- al report card about the dog in order to help the organi- zation match the pet with a permanent home.
Through the Couch Crash- ers program, the East O‘ahu community can foster any dog older than six months for at least 72 hours and as long as two weeks. According to Ha- waiian Humane Society, not only does the program enable potential adopters to learn more about dogs they may be interested in, but moving dogs into a loving home envi- ronment — even temporarily — can also profoundly impact the animals’ well-being.
The Couch Crashers pro- gram has been popular with people looking to adopt. So far, approximately 75% of participating dogs have been adopted by their fosters.
