    Apply For Financial Assistance Online
East O‘ahu homeowners who were affected by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic can apply for fi- nancial assistance, mort- gage counseling and oth- er resources to help avoid foreclosure through a new program administered by nonprofit Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement.
Funding for this initiative came from the federal gov- ernment’s American Rescue Plan Act, which allotted $50 milliontohomeownersassis- tanceforHawai‘iresidents.
“Helping people avoid foreclosure and displacement during this pandemic is a top priority, and we want to be able to help those homeowners with the greatest need so they can remain in their homes,” states Denise Iseri-Matsubara, executive director of Hawai‘i Housing Finance and Devel- opment Corp.
Applicants — who may be eligible to receive up to $30,000 to go toward mort- gages, property taxes, utility payments, homeowners as- sociation fees and other ex- penses — must meet certain requirements. Priority will be given to 1,000 people who earn at or below 100% of the area median income ($84,600/one person) or are considered socially disad- vantaged.
