Donation Aids Trail Repairs
JUNE 16, 2021 9
Central Pacific Bank Foundation pre- sented Kokonut Koalition with a check for $30,000, which will be used for urgently needed supplies for temporary repairs to Koko Crater Trail in Hawai‘i Kai.
Individual donations are still welcome and can be made at Kokonut Koalition’s GoFundMe page: gofundme.com/f/help- us-save-the-koko-crater-trail.
The first phase of repairs, from the trail head to the bridge, is complete. Wood ties were replaced and supported with gravel. The rehabilitation project is now in phase two, extending from the bridge to the sum- mit.
All funds will be used to purchase sup- plies and equipment.
“CPB Foundation is proud to support Kokonut Koalition with a $30,000 grant,” states CPB Foundation executive director, Keith Amemiya, in a release announcing the donation.
“We also encourage the users of the trail to contribute what they can. This is one of the largest volunteer-driven projects in the state and all the organizers are unpaid. I’m grateful for everything they were able to ac- complish so far.”

“We made a lot of progress, but we an still use the public’s help,” states David Nixon, Kokonut Koalition president.
“There are ways you can help out just as part of your climb, by carrying some gravel up the hill or helping to remove the large number of disintegrated rail ties to the sides of the trail over the years.”

“Managing a project from a distance is difficult. CMC
was great to work with. They were the first company
to respond to my request for quotes. Their price was
reasonable and they kept to their quote. They kept me up
to date on progress via phone, text, and email which was much appreciated. Mike sent me photos of the finished project and it looks great! I will definitely be calling them for my next paint job!” – Rachel S..
“They were able to come by give us a quote and get to work right away. The team took great care of our ‘Ohana by selecting products that would dry quickly, were
nontoxic, and working around us being home. Their work is impeccable and
really brought some needed life into our space.” – Noel S.
