Mililani High School sophomore Riley Tateyama has qualified to represent Team USA in the World Archery Youth Championships in Limerick, Ireland from July 1 to 9. Tateyama has been training since the age of 7 and has brought home many accomplishments including world festival championships in Las Vegas and national USA Archery events. This summer, Tateyama will set her sights in attempting to make the Olympic trials team in Pennsylvania among sea- soned archers and national champions ... Members of the public, including Central O‘ahu residents, are invited to a Hawai‘i Lions picnic in the park event scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 17 at Ala Moana Regional Park. Everyone is invited for a day of games for keiki, food and live entertainment. There is no admission fee. Allena Wong, along with Wahiawā’s BresciaLin Vic- tor, were among the nearly 60 Linfield University stu- dents who performed at the recent 50th annual lū‘au and hō‘ike held at the school in McMinnville, Oregon. Oki is a junior majoring in finance, Oshiro is a graduate student earning a master’s degree in business with a focus on de- sign and innovation, Ouye is a junior majoring in exercise science, Wong is a senior majoring in accounting and Victor is a junior majoring in elementary education. This Linfield tradition was the re- sult of months of work and dance practice from the Hui O Lōkahi student club. Stu- dents enjoyed a plate lunch supplied by ‘Ohana Hawai- ian Café of Portland and the hō‘ike performances. The theme was Ma‘ohi Nui, cel- ebrating multiple cultures and people of the Pacific. The dances took the crowd of nearly 1,000 to the islands of O‘ahu, Tahiti, New Zealand, Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i, among others. Linfield students were joined by guests from Hawai‘i.
