The author also suggests ways of addressing Ha- wai‘i’s continual teacher shortages, such as approach- ing retired professionals to determine their desire to be- come educators, having the DOE offer generous schol- arships to students interested in teaching, and even having the DOE work with local credit unions and banks to help teachers get mortgages.
