ALEA Bridge In Wahiawā Receives A Grant For Flood Relief
A grant to support on- going flood relief efforts has been provided to Wahi- awā-based nonprofit ALEA Bridge from the Aloha Unit- ed Way Emergency Flood Relief Fund. The grant was created to provide statewide food, housing, shelter, disas- ter, and crisis services for those impacted by flooding and persistent storms on O‘ahu and other islands this spring. The fund also sup- ports AUW’s 211 Helpline, which provides statewide information and referrals to emergency services and oth- er urgent health and human service needs.
“We want to say mahalo to each and every contrib- utor to this relief effort,” states Red Cross regional CEO Diane Peters-Nguyen.
“This funding is providing for flooding victims’ ongo- ing needs, and is helping them rebuild their lives.”
ed communities across the state,” states Lisa Kimura, vice president of community impact at Aloha United Way. “They responded quickly during a crisis situation; al- locating food distributions, cleanup efforts, case man- agement and other critical support services to make the most impact on multiple is- lands.”
“One of our clients watched all of his posses- sions wash away in the flash flooding. There was nothing he could do,” states ALEA Bridge executive director Nicky Winter. “In the imme- diate aftermath, we provided hygiene items, clothes, food, snacks, water, towels, socks and PPE. Now we have shifted to helping him regain his documentation and re- place what he lost,” Winter adds.
