New Local Band Helps Hungry Ear Celebrate Record Store Day
Hungry Ear Records has some very special guests coming Saturday for its fifth annual Record Store Day, which is an event celebrated at hundreds of U.S. and international record stores that are independently owned promoters of retail music.
Boom Gaspar – a local musician and keyboardist with Pearl Jam and the new local group, Po & the 4Fathers – will be on hand from 2 p.m. for an autograph session with Kiliona Young and Kawai Hoe.
Po & the 4Fathers, which also includes Kalei Young and Roman Corpuz, has just released its first 7-inch single, Kingdom Come/Do Ya. Pearl Jam musicians Eddie Vedder and Stone Gossard contributed to the new record.
“Coming together, we create a powerful sound with influences of funk, reggae, hip-hop, rock and soul,” said Gaspar, a Waimanalo resident and Kailua High grad. “A sound that represents the forward movement of modern-day Maoli music.”
The 32-year-old Kailua record store also has new releases by Bruno Mars and The Green, along with its inventory of other new and used record albums and compact discs. Discounts apply on Record Store Day.
Hungry Ear is located at 418 Kuulei Road – where it first opened in 1980. For more information, call Ward Yamashita or Dennie Chong at 262-2175.
