National Excellence Award For Hanalani

Hanalani Schools has added another award to its coffers: The Mililani private school has earned a 2014 National Gold Council of Excellence Award from the National Association of Student Councils (NASC).

“Hanalani Schools is extremely honored and blessed to be a recipient of the prestigious National Gold Council of Excellence Award,” said upper school principal Winston Sakurai. “Our student council has worked tirelessly to serve its student body, school, community and great God. They have truly made our school better through their striving for excellence. This award is an enormous recognition of the accomplishments of our outstanding student council officers and visionary advisers.”

To meet the NASC criteria, Hanalani’s student council had to pass a variety of hurdles – in addition to basic requirements, such as a written constitution, regular meetings, a democratic election process and membership in NASC.

Schools that qualify for the award demonstrate such attributes as leadership training for council members, teacher/staff appreciation activities, student recognition programs and active participation in state and national student council associations.

“Receiving an NASC National Gold Council of Excellence Award reflects the highest dedication on the part of the local school to providing a strong, well-rounded student council program,” stated Ann Postlewaite, director of NASSP Student Programs.

“NASC applauds the work of the National Gold Councils of Excellence, and challenges them to continue their leadership and service to their schools and communities.”

The NASC promotes leadership development opportunities to empower students to serve their schools and communities.
