Nathan Aweau To Sing At Tree-lighting
Christmas trees might be sprouting up all over the state, but the festivities don’t really start until Dec. 3 when Castle Medical Center lights up its hallmark tree — for the 30th time.
The formal ceremony starts at 7 p.m., with music and Santa’s arrival, but Marine Forces Pacific Band will play a pre-ceremony concert at 6:15. A holiday concert by award-winning singer Nathan Aweau follows the tree-lighting at 7:30, with the entire free event emceed by media personality Dawn O’Brien.
There also will be trolley rides to view Kailua’s Christmas decorations, photo opportunities with Santa and Mrs. Claus (and Nana Bear), keiki activities and free refreshments, including popcorn, cookies and drinks. Organizers recommend that families pack a picnic dinner, but light meals will be available to purchase from the Bistro tent.
Attendees are advised to park at Kailua High School and take a shuttle to the hospital grounds, starting at 5 p.m. There will be no parking at Manu Aloha Street. In addition, trolleys will move between Castle and Kailua Town Center, also starting at 5.
