‘Music Man’ Opening At Paliku

Fans of musical theater have three days in May to catch Hawaii Education of the Arts’ (HEARTS) concert production of The Music Man at Paliku Theatre.

The curtain will go up at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $10-$20. Tickets can be purchased by visiting showtix4u.com or by calling 387-4355.

This concert version is based on the family-friendly play which revolves around con man Harold Hill, who swindles small towns by promising he will help them start a band. After they pay for the uniforms and instruments, he skedaddles with the money.

River City looks to be just another stop in the cycle – until Hill falls in love with the town librarian Marian Paroo.

Director is Michael Cabagbag with lead roles by Jordan Klein (Harold Hill), Mia Shelborne (Marian) and Ian Simon (Marcellus).

Familiar songs favorites are many, including Seventy-six Trombones, Trouble, ‘Til There Was You, Pickalittle and Gary, Indiana.

Based in Kailua, HEARTS is a nonprofit arts education group that offers choir, dance and theater programs for youths, producing three musicals at Paliku every year. For more information, email heartsboxoffice@gmail.com.
