Movie 43
Ryan Matsumoto AKA Hawaiian Ryan, 102.7 Da Bomb
Where and with whom did you see the movie?
I saw it at Ward Theater with Lennay Kekua.
Overall, what did you think?
I was entertained, but I’m really weird.
Movie 43 comes out of that part of my brain that used to “listen to a lot of Bob Marley” when I was in college.
It’s a mash-up of fart jokes and horrible ideas you write down in your journal and then never show anyone. It’s the worst movie ever, sprinkled with moments of pure genius, kind of like my life.
On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film?
I give it ★★ , but sprinkled with Twilight glitter.
What did you think of the cinematography?
There’s a 10-minute skit where a boyfriend prepares to poop on his girlfriend, I don’t think cinematography is relevant here. Or maybe it is, but it just sounds funny.
Was the message/theme clear?
Yes. Wait for this movie to be on Netflix, watch instantly and then don’t watch it with your mother, instantly or otherwise.
Did it remind you of any other work in film?
I felt like I was watching a collection of the worst moments in Saturday Night Live history, mixed with some of the best, with just a hint of Ren & Stimpy, and an even slighter hint of a dream I had once after accidentally ingesting too much isopropyl.
Who would you recommend this movie to?
Any youth group ages 5-17. I’m kidding.
I can only recommend this to my mentally twisted friends. I would not recommend this to sober people.
Did any of the actors stand out?
Beezel, a cartoon cat who drives and shoots a gun pretty darn accurately.
Did you identify with any of the characters?
Halle Berry plays truth or dare while on a first date, and the dares keep getting more and more crazy until the guy actually becomes Chinese for her, and he still doesn’t get any.
So yeah, I identify. It’s just that my Chinese conversion happened at birth.
Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film?
What soundtrack?
Would you buy this movie when it comes out on DVD?
I’d buy a Chinatown version for a dollar.
On a different note, what’s new with you?
