McDonald’s Assists In Keiki Crosswalk Safety
The streets around Oahu are a little safer now, thanks to Ronald McDonald and local keiki.
In partnership with Grace Pacific, dozens of iconic Ronald McDonald shoe-print decals instructing children to “stop” or “look both ways” were installed or repainted at areas of concern in school zones.
A number of schools participated in the project, including Kahuku and Laie Elementary schools on the Windward side.
“We hope the decals will grab children’s attention and remind them to be aware of their surroundings before using the crosswalk,” said McDonald’s owner-operator Erlinda Rosario. “Crosswalks, especially ones around schools, can be dangerous because children aren’t always as aware of their surroundings and careful as they should be.”
The initiative was led by McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii as part of the state’s August Pedestrian Safety Awareness Month in conjunction with the state Department of Transportation, Department of Education and county governments.
