Mayoral Candidates To Face Concerned Voters
The Kalaheo Hillside Residents Association will put candidates Kirk Caldwell and Ben Cayetano in the hot seat at a mayoral candidates forum, set for 7 tonight (Sept. 26) in the Aikahi Elementary School cafeteria.
KHRA invites all area residents and the public to attend. Each candidate will have 30 minutes to speak and answer questions from the audience. Both men have confirmed their attendance.
“We have asked them to focus on issues pertaining to the Windward side,” said member Matthew John Darnell, “i.e., the proposed sewer tunnel through Oneawa Hillside, Bill 11 that is a ban of commercial activity at Kailua Beach, road conditions, smell from the Aikahi wastewater treatment plant, etc.”
The association recently was briefed by engineers on the latest details of the Kaneohe-Kailua Wastewater Conveyance and Treatment Facilities Project. Members are concerned, among other things, for the stability of the soil and how the construction work will affect the land underneath their homes.
