Matsumoto’s T-shirts Inducted Into Clothiers’ Hall Of Fame
The legend of Matsumoto Shave Ice got another boost with its induction into the Hanes Beefy T-shirt Hall of Fame.
Owner Stanley Matsumoto was presented with the Hall of Fame award at the HanesBrand Image-wear corporate headquarters in Winston-Salem, N.C. The honor recognizes companies that have built their business around the T-shirt, using creativity, business savvy and dedication.
“We are extremely honored to be inducted into the Hanes Beefy-T Hall of Fame,” said Matsumoto. “Among all the T-shirt companies, we like the Hanes Beefy T shirts the best, and our customers feel the same as we do.
The T-shirts help to advertise our business all over the world.”
Matsumoto’s began selling T-shirts in 1976, and since then the shirts have become nearly as popular as the shave ice treats that have made the North Shore store an island landmark. Some of the more famous patrons to have donned the T-shirts have been actor Tom Hanks, sumo wrestler Konishiki and Olympic ice skater Kristi Yamaguchi.
“We like to make unique T-shirt designs to attract our male customers, and make really cute designs for our female customers,” explained Matsumoto. “We believe that the creativity of the designs really show our fun and family-oriented businesses.”
Mastumoto’s opened in Haleiwa in 1951 and today creates more than 1,000 tasty treats a day. It’s become such a part of local culture that Travel and Leisure raved: “For more than 60 years, Matsumoto has been the place to go on Oahu’s famed North Shore … Year after year, it never changes, and it’s always delicious.” Or as Fodor’s said, “If you’re going to the North Shore, it’s a must to stop by this legendary shack …”
Matsumoto’s has been using Hanes Beefy T’s since it first started selling shirts, and this, along with its historic success, led the clothing manufacturer to honor the store.
“With its history, commitment to quality and creative spirit, Matsumoto Shave Ice embodies the essence behind the Hanes Beefy-T Hall of Fame,” declared Marion Plumb, vice president of sales for HanesBrand Imagewear.
“Their customers come from all over the world for a unique experience, and they want to take a piece of that experience with them in the form of a T-shirt.
“Our commitment to the quality of the Hanes Beefy T ensures that Matsumoto Shave Ice customers will have a memento for years to come.”
