Marina’s Festival Of Lights Sails Saturday
The 2013 Festival of Lights Christmas Boat Parade is about to set sail in Hawaii Kai Marina.
Sponsored by Hawaii Kai Marina Community Association, the water parade opens at 5:30 p.m. Saturday by Hawaii Kai Towne Center. (Call 396-2469.)
“The growing success of this exciting, spectacular and foremost enjoyable event,” said marina manager Beverly Liddle, “is due to the enthusiasm and efforts of its participants.”
Some of that enthusiasm comes from four categories of prizes for three sizes of boats, plus Best Overall.
Decorated boats will pass by the judges at 6 and slowly navigate the entire marina – Duck Island, Kuapa Isle, Spinnaker Isle, Hawaii Kai Shopping Center, Koko Isle, The Peninsula, Mawaena Kai, Anchorage, Mariners Cove, and end just before Wailua Bridge.
Mike Buck emcees dockside activities at the town center, where entertainment starts at 4:30 p.m., plus a concert with Lehua Kalima and Shawn Pimental at 5. The town center also has complimentary Blinky Light pins for the first 1,000 guests.
Sponsors are Hawaiian Electric Co., the town center and shopping center, Koko Marina Center and The Light Bulb Source.
