MA‘O Farms’ Produce Service Open In Kailua
Community Supported Agriculture has arrived in Kailua, as a thriving Waianae farm has opened its vegetable delivery service at the local Foodland store for serious veggie eaters.
Known for its youth development work and promotion of food security, MA’O Farms began delivering CSA boxes of produce March 1 to customers, who can pick them up at the Kailua Foodland each Friday afternoon, thanks to a collaboration with the supermarket and its Sullivan Ohana.
“Nice and easy, you’ll be able to collect your CSA and do some shopping,” said Gary Maunakea-Forth, MA’O’s co-founder and managing director. The weekly bright yellow box contains 10 to 14 seasonal vegetables, some fruits, cooking greens, roots and herbs, plus the farm’s signature Sassy salad mix. Sharing the large order is recommended.
The farm already delivers to customers at the V Lounge on Kapiolani Boulevard, at Saunders Hall at UH Manoa, and at points in Makakilo and Waianae.
Fee is $134.03 per month, and subscriptions are payable by credit card. Minimum subscription is eight consecutive weeks. For details, visit maoorganicfarms.org. The website recommends that you NOT subscribe if you “don’t like vegetables, don’t like trying new foods, or if you don’t like to cook or eat at home.”
