Leilehua High Hosts Kunia Orchid Show
Kunia Orchid Society will fill Leilehua High School gym this weekend with orchids and tips on growing them.
The club’s 61st annual orchid show runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, with hourly door prizes, the Kunia Kountry Store, an ikebana showcase and a bake sale. A special orchid basket will be presented to the event’s 2,015th visitor.
Members and other experts also lead demonstrations and lectures throughout the show, including Honohono Orchid Culture with Callman Au at 1:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Creative Potting with Fred Dishman at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, and Orchid Basics with Gary Moniz at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Also participating are 22 plant vendors, Leilehua clubs (food and produce) and the state Department of Agriculture. Five orchid clubs will mount displays, and a plant doctor will answer questions.
Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
