Legends in Concert Waikiki
It’s no secret that celebrities play a big role in fashion trends – what they wear often becomes the must-have item of the season. Then there are those who have become fashion icons through their own signature style, such as Elvis Presley, Steven Tyler, Madonna and Michael Jackson.
Now you can see these four legendary artists and some of their familiar costumes at Legends in Concert Waikiki’s “Rock-a-Hula” at Royal Hawaiian Center. In this ultra-realistic, high-energy show, Elvis Presley is portrayed by tribute artist Johnny Fortuno (who was born and raised in Wahiawa), Steven Tyler by Chris VanDahl, Michael Jackson by Damian Brantley, Madonna by Kimberly Goltry, and Elvis from the ’50s and ’60s by Victor Trevino Jr. There also is Little Richard portrayed by Garry Moore, who is a periodic special guest performer.
“This cast of Legends is the most impactful on the fashion industry of any ever assembled in one show,” notes Brian Brigner, Legends in Concert COO. “No one did fashion like Elvis, who had an ability to meld or rework classic men’s garments with touches of flair, much like his music. The Elvis flavor is still with us, as his bling and a lot of gold has been echoed tenfold in the hip-hop world, and big collars have returned over the years to fashion.
“Michael Jackson had a knack for interpreting fashion that is rare. The clothes never wore him! From sequins, military jackets, skinny silhouettes, exaggerated shoulders and excessive zippers, Michael was a fashion force. Just look how he has inspired today’s stars like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Usher, Katy Perry and Beyonce. And to Madonna, who got the most from the polka-dot patterns, lace skirts and leggings of the 1980s, to the Midwestern plaid and cowgirl-inspired clothes of a couple of years ago. This cast has had an indelible impact on the fashion world.”
Legends in Concert, which is headquartered in Las Vegas, is the longest-running show in Vegas. Legends in Concert Waikiki is open year-round with performances six nights a week (dark on Mondays). Showtime is 8 p.m., with cocktails and dining options available before and after the shows. Cocktail, luau and dinner packages range from $50 for cocktail and show to $180 for Green Room VIP treatment. Kamaaina and children’s rates also are available.
