Leeward CC Offers Tax Help This Month
Tax season is in full swing, which means stress abounds for many. Thankfully, Leeward Community College understands the struggle and offers free income tax preparation assistance Tuesdays and Thursdays until March 19 (1:30-5:30 p.m.) and Saturdays until March 28 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.).
As part of LCC’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, student volunteers and professionals in the community will be on hand to help lowto moderate-income residents. VITA has been assisting the community with tax preparation for 30 years.
According to the college, all volunteers are trained and certified to prepare basic tax returns.
The workshops do not cover business and rental income/complex investments.
The following items are required: photo identification, Social Security cards and birth dates for yourself, your spouse and dependants; wage and earning statements (forms W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers); interest and dividend statements from banks (forms 1099); a copy of last year’s federal and Hawaii tax returns, if possible; and bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit of refunds (optional).
Also required are other relevant documents regarding expenses, such as real estate taxes paid for your personal residence, college expenses, daycare expenses (including care provider’s address and identifying numbers) and information for itemized deductions.
Workshops are held at the college’s BE 229 room and appointments are not required. Contact Roy Kamida at kamida@hawaii.edu or 455-0294 for more information.
LCC’s VITA program is part of the college’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) program, which was honored by Gov. David Ige last month for offering “outstanding contributions to the state.”
