Leeward AYSO Earns $2,500
AYSO Leeward Region 269 is one of more than 20 youth sports organizations and schools around the nation that has earned a $2,500 grant from Liberty Mutual Insurance’s Responsible Sports program.
The Responsible Sports program is designed to help adults maximize the positive role they play in young athletes’ lives through helpful blogs, videos, curriculum and podcasts.
The program’s grants help sports organizations upgrade facilities, purchase new uniforms or equipment and lower or waive participation fees.
Leeward Region 269 parents, coaches and group officials earned the grant through encouraging community members to complete an online quiz about sports mentoring for their region.
AYSO Leeward Region 269 will use the funds to aid local teams participating in the 2012 AYSO National Games in Knoxville, Tenn.
“We are extremely proud of our athletes and the parent and coaches who support them for helping us earn this Responsible Sports grant,” said Ron Mata, administrator of AYSO Leeward Region 269. “This is an excellent program that will provide much-needed support to our program.”
“Schools and youth programs are continuing to feel the brunt of continued budget cuts and are not yet seeing the relief that some other areas of the economy are starting to see,” added Matthew Schlechte, the senior branch manager for Liberty Mutual’s Honolulu office. “AYSO Leeward Region 269 has demonstrated a clear commitment to helping kids understand the life lessons youth sports have to offer. And by doing so, they’ve also been able to earn increasingly hard-to-find funding for their program.”
The Responsible Sports program was created in 2007 through a partnership between Liberty Mutual Insurance, Positive Coaching Alliance and a number of national youth sports organizations. Throughout the years, the program has provided more than $480,000 in funding to nearly 200 youth sports organizations and schools across the country.
Another round of Responsible Sports grants is available now. The 20 youth sports organizations and schools that promote the highest level of participation in the Responsible Sports online quiz at responsiblesports.com through May 31 will be eligible to win a grant.
