Law Supports Environmental Efforts
The state budget bill signed into law June 18 provides funding for environmental programs throughout the state, including areas around Wahiawa and Punaluu.
Funds for these areas will go to the construction of fences to protect more than 1,000 acres from feral pigs in the Koolau mountains. Public access will be maintained for recreational and gathering purposes. Pedestrian gates and steps-over will be provided along fence corridors to ease access in and out of protected areas.
In addition to the fencing, funds have been appropriated to fight invasive plants and animals that threaten native species.
