Kick-Ass 2
Sage Yoshida
Amateur MMA Competitor
What is your official title/occupation? Full-time student at Kapiolani Community College, salesperson at Heavy Metal Barbell Company and amateur MMA competitor.
Where and with whom did you see the movie? I watched the movie, Kick-Ass 2, at the Consolidated Ward Theaters with my girlfriend Meshelle Hirashima.
Overall, what did you think? Overall, I thought it was a pretty good movie. I was actually quite surprised with how the storyline developed. At times, you could sort of predict what was going to happen next, but the action and humor made up for that.
Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes? One of my favorite scenes would have to be where Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) is injected with her “last resort” adrenaline shot. She goes beast-mode in that fight segment!
On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this film? If I had to be fair, I would probably give it ★★ 1/2. Only reason is because I thought it was a good movie, but it wasn’t spectacular.
What did you think of the cinematography? I thought that the cinematography was fairly decent. It was a lot better than what I expected.
Was the message/theme clear? The message of the story was pretty clear: You don’t need a costume or disguise to be a superhero, it is who you are; it comes from within.
Did it remind you of any other works of film? There were times where the movie reminded me of Spider-Man.
To whom would you recommend this movie? I would recommend this movie to anyone who has interest in superheroes or likes to watch superhero movies with action and violence.
Did any of the actors stand out? I felt that the actress who played Mother Russia, Olga Kurkulina, stood out a lot because she was a beast and it looked like she was more muscular than I am (haha).
Did you identify with any of the characters? I could probably identify the most with the character of Mindy Macready, or Hit Girl, mainly because of the fact that her dad taught her martial arts and combative arts at such a young age. I grew up living the same lifestyle where my dad constantly kept me in the gym, always training and trying to improve my abilities so that I could better myself as a person and a martial artist.
Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film? I felt that there was really no significance with the soundtrack.
Would you buy this movie when it comes out on DVD? Maybe not. However, if it’s available through Netflix, I might consider watching it again.
What’s your favorite movie snack? I have a sweet tooth, so my favorite movie snacks are Dibs ice cream bites and an ICEE.
On a different note, what’s new with you? Nothing really new happening with me at the moment. I’ve been taking a short break from the fighting scene, but I’m looking to compete again before the year ends. I’m still actively training and trying my best to stay in great shape and keep my tools sharp, though.
