Kapiolani ECMO Program Turns 5
Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children celebrated the fifth anniversary of its ECMO (extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation) program earlier this year at Oahu Country Club. ECMO is temporary but prolonged heart lung bypass done in intensive care units for patients whose lungs or heart are so sick that these organs can no longer support the patient’s own body.
