Kailua Historians Host ‘Descending Stories’
Celebrated Kailua author Kaui Hart Hemmings will lead a panel discussion at 3 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Presbyterian Church on “Descending Stories: How Shall We Tell Them?’
Sponsored by Kailua Historical Society, the free public program will examine the challenges and opportunities of Hawaii’s contemporary writers, especially involving historical subjects.
The panel also will include Windward residents Maile Meyer of Native Books and filmmaker and author Tom Coffman. Another panelist was not named at press time.
“It should be a thoughtful discussion among these descendants,” said society president Paul Brennan. “We need to focus on this, especially Kailua’s history. They are of the same generation with concerns about time.”
Hemmings is the author of The Descendants, which inspired the award-winning major motion picture of the same name starring George Clooney.
The church is located in Maunawili at 845 Auloa Road. For more information, call Brennan at 262-7316.
