July 4 Race, Fireworks, Music, More In Kahuku
Plenty of entertainment and fireworks are in the works on the Fourth of July in Kahuku, sponsored by Turtle Bay Resort.
The day will start with the 35th annual Da Hui Paddle Race and Expo. The long-course race is at 10 a.m. from the resort, and a short course race at 10:30 a.m. from Sunset Beach. Both finish at Waimea Bay.
The stand-up paddleboard expo will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Turtle Bay’s West Lawn with entertainment, food booths and activities. Live music is booked from 2 to 8 p.m., when the fireworks show begins.
All events are free and open to the public, and families are welcome to bring blankets and low-back chairs for the pyrotechnic display.
Online forms will be accepted by mail through June 29 for the paddling events, or they can be sent in online until July 3. For details, visit dahuipaddlerace.com. Same-day registration will be taken at the resort or at Sunset Beach beginning at 7 a.m.
On land, meanwhile, there’s a beer garden, prizes, holua sledding, board carving, a water slide and an after party at Surfer, The Bar. The music lineup includes John Cruz, Typical Hawaiians, Kapena and more.
