iPhone 5 Is $99 Down At T-Mobile
Last week, T-Mobile announced it’s offering the iPhone 5 for $99.99 down, plus monthly payments. It is the only company to offer the iPhone 5 with no annual service contract plus unlimited talk, text and Web on 4G. This is significant, because since there are no contracts, you can decide when to upgrade your device, not the carrier.
“This is an important day for people who love their iPhone but can’t stand the pain other carriers put them through to own one,” says John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile USA. “We feel their pain. I’ve felt the pain. So we’re rewriting the rules of wireless to provide a radically simple, affordable iPhone 5 experience – on an extremely powerful network.”
T-Mobile is offering the iPhone 5 with the Simple Choice Plan that starts with a base rate of $50 per month for unlimited talk, text and Web with 500MB of 4G. You can add 2GB of data for $10 a month (per line) or unlimited data for $20 a month (per line). You can add a second line for $30 per month with no caps or overages. This Simple Choice Plan is great for those who are unable to commit to a contract.
In addition to the $99.99 you pay upfront for your iPhone 5, you’ll pay $20 per month for 24 months. If you don’t want to go all-out for the iPhone 5, you can opt for the iPhone 4S for $69.99 down (plus $20/month for 24 months), or the iPhone 4 for $14.99 down (and $15/month for 24 months). Of course, these options only are available if your credit is approved.
Another option is you could possibly obtain an iPhone 5 for free when you switch from another carrier and trade in your current iPhone 4/4S. You’ll also receive a $120 credit (that can be applied toward monthly payments, outstanding bills or accessories). This offer will be available through Father’s Day (June 16). The main hurdle for T-Mobile and this offer will be the early termination fee from other carriers.
If you’re just not an iPhone fan, similar pricing points will be available for the Samsung Galaxy S 4, BlackBerry Z10, HTC One and Samsung Galaxy Note. Visit t-mobile.com for more information and to find your nearest T-Mobile store.
Click Chick’s Mobile App of the Week: Mute by Location
Everybody hates that one person in the movie theater whose cell phone starts ringing obnoxiously in the middle of the juiciest part of the movie. For Android users, the free Mute by Location app allows you to preset how loud or soft your ringtone will be by location so you won’t be that person.
Mute by Location provides you with silence where you need it, and you don’t need to manually silence your phone. You can specify multiple locations by tapping on the map and change the loudness settings. All you’ll need is an Internet connection to locate your position, then you’re all set.
