Introducing Hawaii’s New First Lady
As we welcome the start of 2015, we also welcome a new first lady to Washington Place. Meet Dawn Amano-Ige, wife of Hawaii’s eighth governor, David Ige. A school vice principal, Amano-Ige is currently on a leave of absence to serve as first lady.

Inauguration Ceremony: On this special day, the first lady wore a red suit from Ann Taylor. “I love Ann Taylor,” she says. “I like tailored outfits that fit well. Also, red is my favorite color. I wear red often. I’m also a bargain shopper. I bought this for 50 percent off on Black Friday.”
Born and raised in Ewa, she graduated from Campbell High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Hawaii. She also has an MBA from Chaminade University, and a professional diploma in Elementary Education from University of Hawaii.
Prior to becoming a vice principal, she was an elementary school teacher, and also has worked as a public relations account executive and marketing director for a healthcare system.
Favorite item in your closet: Pink dress (by Taylor) that I wore on Primary Election Night (Aug. 9). It’s festive, colorful and fun. I purchased it from Nordstrom Rack for $20. I love a good find.
Favorite designer(s): One of my favorite dresses is the one I wore at the inauguration celebration dinner. It’s by designer Jeanie Chun. Mrs. (Jean) Ariyoshi introduced me to her. I love the way she designed the dress with lace and a little shine.
