Inspired By Nature At DFS Galleria
DFS Galleria Waikiki and the University of Hawaii Apparel Product Design and Merchandising students present a collaboration event of beauty and fashion that is ‘Inspired by Nature’ April 7 from 2 to 10 p.m.
A highlight of the event is a fashion show with creations by the UH student designers with an emphasis on the nature theme. Inspired by Nature is the DFS Spring 2012 theme for products and displays, and this season’s UH collection will feature the use of natural fabrics donated by internationally renowned textile artist Akihiko Izukura. The UH senior designers were given tubular shaped raw silk; dyed their fabric using local, natural dyes such as lipstick tree, red dirt and turmeric; and applied Izukura’s philosophy of “zero waste” when constructing their garments.
On the schedule is an Inspired by Nature overview from 2 to 2:30 p.m., a floral styling exhibition with students using fresh flowers to create a floral garment from 2:30 to 4 p.m., a fashion and beauty styling competition from 4 to 6 p.m., the Inspired by Nature fashion show from 7 to 8 p.m., and the Beauty After Dark Party from 8 to 10 p.m.
The free event is open to the public, and takes place at Luxury Walk on the first floor of DFS Galleria Waikiki (located on the corner of Kalakaua and Royal Hawaiian Avenues). Complimentary four-hour validated parking is available at the Waikiki Trade Center with any DFS purchase.
