Outdoor Circle appreciates the ‘green,’ and puts it right back into Kailua
Editor,
It was wonderful to see the I Love Kailua Town Party stories in the Windward Islander, and the photos and caption that ran May 9.
How we wish we could have made $100,000 this year for our Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle beautification projects! Unfortunately, after expenses and the ever-present taxes, we will have only about $10,000 to $12,000 to spend on our projects to beautify Kailua.
It takes many years to accumulate enough money to finance a beautification project. Our latest projects – refurbishment of Kalapawai Triangle and new plantings at Pali Palms Triangle – were done at a cost of nearly $50,000 each. Although these are public areas, they were not financed by the City, but solely by funds accumulated over the years by the LKOC’s fundraisers, mainly the I Love Kailua Town Party.
We have presented this fundraiser to benefit the Kailua community for 20 years. We want to thank our many friends, cooperating merchants and community organizations for their help – it’s truly a community event! And, of course, we welcome new members who want to help us in our mission of “Keeping Kailua Clean, Green and Beautiful.”
