HPU Showcases Maoli Future In Art Exhibition
Hawaii Pacific University’s latest art exhibit features Maoli artists tackling the complex role of translators and transmitters of the past, present and future for their people.
“MAP II: maoli.art.pedagogy – Visions of the Future” opened Sept. 29 at the Hawaii Loa campus gallery and will run through Nov. 16 showcasing the talents of Kazu Kauinana, Solomon Enos, Lilette Subedi, Kahiau Beamer and Pete Britos. They were invited to “explore the theme of visualization and the future” through a variety of media, acting as guides to the viewer, whose perspective is shaped by his or her culture, psychology and geography.
The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday in Kaneohe. Admission and parking are free. For more information, call 544-0228.
