HPU Auditions Actors For Broadway Comedy
You can’t take it with you — but interested actors can take themselves to Paul and Vi Loo Theatre to audition for roles in its upcoming production of You Can’t Take It With You. Tryouts will start at 7 p.m. Friday, noon Saturday and 7 p.m. Jan. 26.
You Can’t Take It With You, by George Kaufman and Moss Hart, centers on Alice Sycamore, a normal girl who worries that her extremely eccentric family will frighten away her equally normal fiancé, Tony Kirby. Considering that her grandfather is wanted for 35 years of tax evasion, her mother writes smutty plays, her father makes fireworks in the basement and there’s a Russian grand duchess in the kitchen for no apparent reason, her concerns may well be justified.
Auditions are open for 19 characters, and applicants will be asked to read lines from the play. Familiarity with the play is encouraged, and scripts are available for perusal at Hawaii Pacific University’s Windward and downtown campus libraries.
The play will run April 3-26 at HPU’s Kaneohe theatre venue, and rehearsals begin immediately. For more information, call director Joyce Maltby at 391-2000 or Janine Myers at 386-4753.
