$150,000 Grant Aids Housing Stability

The American College of Trial Lawyers selected The Mediation Center of the Pacific Inc. as the 2024 Emil Gumpert Award recipient. The $150,000 award, which is the highest honor conferred by ACTL, recognizes programs whose main goal is to maintain and improve the administration of justice. The funds will go toward increasing housing stability by keeping tenants in their residences, or providing them with sufficient time to find an alternate location they can afford. Nonprofits Help To Inspire Youth

The Taco Bell Foundation awarded a $30,000 grant to Boys & Girls Club of Hawai‘i and a $17,200 grant to Junior Achievement of Hawai‘i. The funds will benefit more than 10,000 youth in local communities by supporting initiatives focused on leadership and character development, educational and career advancement, health and life skills, and other programs designed to inspire the leaders of tomorrow. Organizations Collaborate To Combat Period Poverty

The Wāhine Committee of the Chamber of Commerce Hawai‘i’s Young Professionals program partnered with Ma‘i Movement in May for Period Poverty Awareness Month. The committee collected products throughout May and June, and assembled 150 kits to be distributed to those in need. Each kit was designed to last one person one month. Period poverty is defined as limited access to menstrual products due to financial constraints or social stigma. An additional $1,000 in products was donated to Ma‘i Movement to support its ongoing efforts.
